As Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider had recently mentioned that the organization is actively looking for pitching help, they certainly stayed true to their words this week. However, it might not be exactly the type of addition that Blue Jays fans were fully expecting.

The Blue Jays signed former University of South Florida pitcher Jack Nedrow to a minor league contract on Monday and was assigned to their Single-A affiliate Dunedin. This intriguing acquisition made by Toronto was expected to help bolster their minor league pitching depth, considering that the right-hander went undrafted during his college years.

The Blue Jays add non-draftee Jack Nedrow to bolster their pitching depth in their farm system

Last season in his final college year with the South Florida Bulls, Nedrow compiled a solid 5-3 record with a 3.75 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, along with 10 walks and 47 strikeouts in 72 total innings pitched over 18 appearances that included eight starts. As per Clark Stanton of gousfbulls.com, the 23-year-old right-handed pitcher would also spend time in independent leagues following his graduation from the university.

With the Chicago Dogs of the American Association, Nedrow would make 12 starts, posting a 3-4 record with a 3.59 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, with 16 walks and 59 strikeouts in 67.2 innings of work. This year, he spent time with the York Revolution of the Atlantic League where he made three starts before signing with the Blue Jays.

With the Toronto pitching staff being hit by injuries and inconsistencies for much of the 2026 season to date, many were expecting the Blue Jays to make moves that would focus on addressing their issues at the big league level. They already made one in-season move by signing Patrick Corbin, which ended up having a direct positive impact on the ballclub.

Any time one has the unique opportunity to add intriguing talent to their farm system in preparation for the future success of the franchise, you do it without hesitation. That was what the Blue Jays likely had in mind taking a gamble on Nedrow who, for his pre-professional career, had amassed a startling 35-15 winning record with a 3.83 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, along with 348 strikeouts in 406.1 total innings across all levels of competition. That included his standout 2024 NCAA campaign with the Lee Flames where he went a sizzling 11-1 with a 3.22 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, with 84 strikeouts in 78.1 innings pitched over 14 starts.

With Nedrow now joining a long list of prospering Blue Jays pitchers in their farm system, perhaps Toronto will be able to look to at more internal options down the road whenever they need pitching help in the future.
